According to the latest statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), an estimated 19.1 million adults (aged 18 or older) in the United States had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. This represents approximately 7.7% of the US adult population.

In addition, depression is more common in women than in men, with an estimated 9.5% of women experiencing a major depressive episode in the past year compared to 5.5% of men. The prevalence of depression also varies by age, with young adults (aged 18-25) having the highest rates of depression at 16.8%.

Depression is a significant public health concern in the United States, and it is important for individuals who are experiencing symptoms of depression to seek help from a mental health professional. With proper treatment, most people with depression are able to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
